In this contemporary fast-paced world, where digital advancements redefine human connection and communication, we have introduced a visionary hotel brand with a soul, reigniting the essence of genuine interactions and fostering meaningful connections once again,”
Vlad Doronin, Chairman, CEO & Founder
Janu Tokyo marks a significant departure for the Aman Group, a visionary hotel and residence brand reimagining what it means to travel with intention. Designed to stir the soul, Janu embraces a dynamic, socially-focused experience within the bustling Azabudai Hills precinct. Positioned to attract a younger, more socially inclined clientele, Janu sparks collective joy and curates experiences that defy expectations across dining, wellness, and culture, a stark contrast to the tranquil solitude synonymous with its Aman siblings.
Located within Thomas Heatherwick’s visionary “city within a city,” Janu Tokyo eschews the traditional escape narrative, instead placing guests directly within the vibrant heart of urban life. The hotel, the only hotel in Tokyo’s Azabudai Hills, a creative neighborhood in Minato brimming with bars, restaurants and a mood-boosting energy, seamlessly integrates with the surrounding retail and dining landscape, offering unparalleled access to a wealth of amenities. The design, masterfully orchestrated by Jean-Michel Gathy’s Denniston, reflects a commitment to environments that nourish the soul, pushing the limits of contemporary design.
A Global Tapestry with Japanese Threads, by Jean-Michel Gathy
Denniston’s design philosophy at Janu Tokyo blends global influences with subtle nods to Japanese aesthetics, reflecting Gathy’s keen eye for cultural nuances developed during his extensive travels. Guest rooms, generously proportioned and featuring rare Tokyo balconies, are sanctuaries of warm greys, charcoals, and beiges. Tatami-inspired rugs and shoji-like screens create a sense of place, while decorative tsuchikabe sections, utilizing traditional Sakan wall plastering, and European-influenced forms provide a sophisticated, cosmopolitan touch. This fusion of cultures is further emphasized by unique lighting fixtures, where traditional European shades are encased in geometric fabric lanterns. The design merges European flair with understated Japanese elegance, a hallmark of Gathy’s work, where contemporary luxury meets cultural heritage.
Art plays a central role in the Janu experience, with a curated collection featuring works by Haruko Tsuji, Naoto Kashiwagi, Sakuho Ito, Tsutomu Yamamoto, Koji Hirato, and Irena Orlov, adding a layer of contemporary artistic expression.

THE JANU SUITE
The crown jewel of Janu Tokyo is undoubtedly the Janu Suite. Every detail, from the seamless flow of space to the artfully curated furnishings, speaks to Gathy’s unmatched ability to combine comfort with grandeur.
